ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON AND THE ALLAN WATER.
Denis Frize
Retired English Language Lecturer.
Leighton Library Guide, Burrell Collection Guide
Active writer.

Denis will start his talk with a brief mention of those parts of Dunblane featured in 'Kidnapped' and 'Catriona' and will go on to describe the Stevenson's close links with Dunblane and Bridge of Allan. The railway arrived in the 1840's enabling the tubercular mother and her equally tubercular son Robert Louis to holiday at the spa town for 20 years. He roamed the bank of the Allan Water and wrote his first poem at age 6 after climbing Dumyat. Denis will end his talk by asking the question 'Was Stevenson a great writer?' .
