Plans for 129 new homes at Hillside submitted
10 May 2016

Arnbathie Developments and Dandara have brought forward a proposal for full planning permission for the development. An application for a large residential development on the outskirts of Dunblane has been submitted. Arnbathie Developments and Dandara have brought forward a proposal for 129 homes at Hillside. They are seeking full planning permission for the development, which has already attracted opposition from some residents in the area.

In November of last year, we reported that the developers were planning between 100 and 150 units off the Main Road between Dunblane and the Keir Roundabout. The ‘Stop Hillside Houses’ Facebook group has attracted 265 followers. The group argue that the area to the south of the town is unsuitable for residential development, and should not have been indentified for housing in Stirling Council’s draft Local Development Plan. The planning application reveals that there are a variety of different houses proposed within the development, with 40 of the homes classed as ‘affordable’. A statement issued on behalf of the applicant states:

“Development of the site would not only create an attractive addition to the local area but would ensure the delivery of much needed homes and in doing so contribute to increasing the housing land supply in the Stirling area. This is a significant benefit of the proposal and should not be overlooked. Failure to determine the application favourably would have significant implications on the delivery of both main stream and affordable housing in the Stirling area.”

After a consultation event held last November - where 100 people attended - the applicants stated that they have reduced the development’s encroachment on woodland areas.

The development - which would be situated on greenbelt land - is split into several different areas, with a junction off the main road onto the existing road up Hillside proposed by the applicants.

Dunblane Allotment Group recently received a helping hand from the Criminal Justice Team. Members of the team made life much safer and easier at the allotment by relaying paths, which had become overgrown and slippery.

Sally Henderson from Kinbuck died recently. Sally was one of the founder members of the Dunblane Commuinty Website. She was our Secretary and minute taker and, in effect, she chaired our meetings, too. She was a force for good and she will be missed.

On Tuesday 26th April the Davis Cup Trophy came to Dunblane Sports Club.

Update from Forth Housing Association dated 29 March : 'Our contractor TD Trees advises us that they will start the tree felling at Bogside, Dunblane on Friday 1st April 2016. Depending on weather conditions etc they expect the work to take a few days'.

8 Housing Association properties to be built at Bogside

Work will shortly begin on the empty ground at the corner of Perth Road and Bogside. This will herald the construction of eight new homes by Forth Housing Association, which are being built to provide adapted accommodation for current or former Dunblane residents who have housing needs due to medical or mobility difficulties.  The initial activity, by TD Trees of Dunblane, will involve the removal of a small number of trees, required to accommodate the new homes. This tree work has been approved by Stirling Council and people should note that the tree felling will not involve the wider Holmehill area.  Construction work is expected to start in April and be completed by the end of the year. The actual date for starting work will be notified once final approvals from Stirling Council have been agreed. Anyone with questions should contact Forth Housing Association on 01786.446066.

Thanks to all those Dunblane people who participated in the online survey about the future of our town centre and/or  attended the follow-up sessions in February

What did the survey show?

It seems that the priority areas from which clear immediate actions should be identified are:

  • Balancing the accessibility needs of pedestrians, businesses and car users in the Town centre area
  • Improving the Riverside area
  • The future maintenance and development of public services/buildings, particularly with regard to public toilets
  • Further investigation of future opportunities for use of space in and adjacent to the town centre
