The Haugh

The Haugh includes the steep banking, known as the Haining, which slopes down from the western edge of the Cathedral grounds to the Allan Water and the beautiful park land enclosed by the western river bank and the railway embankment.

The park land is a lovely place to walk. There are refurbished benches overlooking the river and seats within the newly created sustainably planted War Memorial garden. The War Memorial itself has recently been refurbished and the access ways improved.

The grassed area also includes two island beds with trees and shrubs, and there is a 225 meter long hosta border, with plants all donated from local gardens, at the foot of the railway embankment, which is thought to be one of the longest hosta borders anywhere in the world.

There is also a stumpery play area for children at the South end of the park.
